Sen. Manchin (D)WV “. . .I will vote against the For the People Act.”

Patriots, your voice has been heard!  Sen Joe Manchin of West Virginia has announced unequivocally that he will vote against Senate Bill 1, Titled, the “For the People Act” but most accurately described as the “Corrupt Politicians Act” #corruptpoliticiansact.  With the U.S. Senate divided 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats, and zero Republican support for the bill, Senator Manchin’s “no” vote is the death knell of Senate Bill 1.  Sen. Manchin wrote in his June 6, 2021 op-ed in the Charleston Gazette-Mail

“I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act. Furthermore, I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster. For as long as I have the privilege of being your U.S. senator, I will fight to represent the people of West Virginia, to seek bipartisan compromise no matter how difficult and to develop the political bonds that end divisions and help unite the country we love.”

and

“The truth, I would argue, is that voting and election reform that is done in a partisan manner will all but ensure partisan divisions continue to deepen.

With that in mind, some Democrats have again proposed eliminating the Senate filibuster rule in order to pass the For the People Act with only Democratic support. They’ve attempted to demonize the filibuster and conveniently ignore how it has been critical to protecting the rights of Democrats in the past.”

Sen. Manchin has demonstrated courage under unceasing pressure from Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer, and the leftist Democrat Party.  Too often politicians get heat for bad decisions, but they don’t get support and thanks when they do the right thing.  He needs to be congratulated for his principled stand on the issue of the Corrupt Politicians Act, and on the issue of preserving the filibuster.

Please call his office at (202)224-3954 and let him know that you appreciate his stand.
